ABOUT UBU
JOURNEY
2026

THE FUTURE WE IMAGINE
UBU is not intended to become a large-scale resort development. Our vision is to create a place where nature, architecture, creativity, and human connection exist in harmony. This land already carries decades of history. We see our role not as developers replacing the past, but as stewards helping guide this special place into its next chapter.
We hope UBU becomes more than a collection of homes. We hope it becomes a place where people begin new chapters of their lives.
LIVING WITH NATURE
Nature is UBU's greatest asset.
Fresh spring water.
Four distinct seasons.
Panoramic views overlooking Beppu Bay.
Daily encounters with wildlife.
Our goal is not to develop over the land, but to live alongside it. Future growth should never come at the expense of the environment. Instead, every step forward should strengthen and preserve the natural qualities that make this place unique.

A PLACE OPEN TO THE WORLD
Air moves differently here
— slower, softer, carrying the scent of the sea.
UBU is not intended for one nationality, generation, or lifestyle. We hope to welcome people from around the world who value creativity, craftsmanship, nature, and intentional living.
Artists. Architects. Entrepreneurs. Remote workers. Families. Retirees.
People searching for a different pace of life. We believe diversity of culture and experience will enrich the future of UBU.

THE WATER OF HIJI
Hiji, Oita is known as a town of spring water.
Fed by the Rokumekoe mountain range, clear groundwater rises throughout the area — from Kannon no Mizu to Yamada Yusui and Kyozuka Yusui.
For generations, people have gathered at these springs to draw water by hand.
Its purity is part of everyday life here — quiet, restorative, and deeply connected to the land.

THE HILL BEYOND UBU
Light arrives slowly here. Mornings are shaped by silence, wind, and changing shadows. Adjacent to UBU is a beautiful hill overlooking the sea known as "Yuhi no Oka" (Sunset Hill).
In the future, opportunities may emerge for carefully curated hospitality and wellness projects, such as:
• A boutique resort
• An auberge
• A wellness retreat
• Creative and cultural spaces
• Nature-focused accommodations
Whatever shape the future may take, one principle will remain unchanged: Development should enhance the land, not diminish it. Preserving the atmosphere, beauty, and sense of discovery that define UBU will always come first.

THE SCALE OF STILLNESS
Looking Ahead
UBU is not a short-term project.
We hope this place remains meaningful and beautiful not only for the next decade, but for the next fifty and one hundred years.
Buildings alone cannot achieve that. It takes people who care. People who choose to protect, nurture, and contribute to the place they call home.
We are not simply looking for buyers. We are looking for people who want to help shape the future of this remarkable place.
UBU
A Place for New Beginnings.

The Meaning of "UBU"
A Place for New Beginnings: The name "UBU" comes from the Japanese word ubugoe (産声) — the first cry of a newborn. It signifies a new home, a new challenge, and the beginning of a fresh chapter in life.
